COUPLES COUNSELING -
TELEHEALTH / $150 - 50 min
When we think about the kind of love we learn from fairy tales, couples therapy doesn't immediately come to mind. Our culture leads us to believe that intimacy, passion, security and trust should appear out of thin air - the work that goes into successful relationships is rarely discussed. It’s not uncommon, however, for couples to experience difficulties with communication, conflicts and connection. Maybe you and your partner are feeling frustrated and isolated about recurring, unresolved arguments over finances, in-laws, childcare, or sex. Maybe an affair has threatened the trust and security in your relationship. Maybe you and your partner are simply in need of a tune-up in the ways you communicate with one another. Whatever friction you and your partner are experiencing, I'm here to help.
I have received extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) through the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy. EFT is an evidence-based practice which is centered on the theory that the negative way partners behave towards one another is based on an insecurity in the relationship. 'I yell at them because it's the only way I can get their attention - if I don't get big my partner will not see me'. Or, 'I don't want to tell them what I'm feeling because they'll get mad at me so I shut down and withdraw from them instead'. In couples counseling, I provide a safe, supportive and compassionate environment to help you and your partner explore your negative pattern of interactions in order to increase self-awareness, deepen your connection and make thoughtful changes to the ways you interact. Rather than focusing on the other, I will invite you to shift the focus onto yourself in order to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, as well as the changes that you can personally make to improve the connection and communication within your relationship.
